YORK MUSEUM GARDENS

(2014 - 2016)
Soft & hard landscape design
Client: York Museums Trust
In collaboration with Erika Diaz-Petersen

Hard and soft landscape design of gardens within historic abbey walls including artist’s garden for the Yorkshire Museum, edible woodland, and access through the abbey ruins.

Erika Diaz Petersen & JCLA collaborated on the design of the new gardens associated with the Yorkshire Museum and York Art Gallery, which reopened in the Spring of 2015 after a major redevelopment.

The project involved creation of new ‘Artists Garden’ adjacent to the refurbished York Art Gallery, an Edible Woodland, and Garden of Yorkshire Flowers within the museum grounds and historic ruins of St Mary’s Abbey (a Scheduled Monument), plus new hard landscape and furniture.

The new gardens provide for gallery visitors and art works, but also give improved access for visitors and servicing alike, enabling deliveries to the museum.
