Playground and public realm design for a mixed use scheme on a complex site in West Hampstead.

JCLA designed a full hard & soft landscape package for this new development by Macreanor Lavington architects. The masterplan included new residential blocks, a workspace unit, connections to an adjacent open space and a new primary school, which was delivered on site.

The school grounds featured creative play using natural materials, ecological exploration areas, new fruit tree planting and softened border edges to create an inspiring play environment.

Complex site issues, such as the proximity of the new school to a live railway line, necessitated close collaboration with the project engineers to design workable solutions; this closeness also gave us the opportunity to include playful train viewing windows from inside the playground
