Playground design for Holy Cross Primary school in Fulham, accompanying a refurbishment project of the school buildings and grounds, with each year having direct access to outdoor play and learning areas.

A number of creative play spaces are provided around the school campus. An inner courtyard with scented climbers and a bespoke water feature provides spill out space from adjacent classrooms. A new reading area around an existing oak tree uses natural materials nestled among planting to create a quiet and restful space. A number of raised planters throughout the grounds for growing herbs and edible plants encourage an easy engagement with the natural world.

The larger play spaces use bold and colourful materials, combined with abstract line markings and imaginative timber play elements to encourage an open creative interpretation by the children. Significant new tree planting brings colourful seasonal changes and supports biodiversity within the school grounds, as well as providing a green screen to the adjacent road. Playful structures surround large trees in the main playground as pieces for climbing and sitting.
